Videotronics
Tyre Handler:
Changing the huge earthmoving equipment tyres weighing up to 10 tonnes is
now safer thanks to BMA Blackwater mines new industrial strength camera
system.
BMA Blackwater mine received delivery of their 2 new Tyre handlers in June
2007. Videotronics where contacted earlier in the year and provided an
onsite consultation with maintenance personnel to determine the
correct mounting positions and correct field of views required by the Tyre
handlers operators.
Installation took place in August 2007 at BMA Blackwater and was managed by
Brad Houghton Videotronics Emerald district manager.
The system has two cameras on each machine.
The rear camera allows the operator to see what is behind the machine
this camera is automatically engaged once the machine is placed in reverse
gear. If required the rear camera can be manually selected also.
The front facing camera was installed as part of an initiative from
Blackwater mine to minimise the time the tyre fitter has to spend in the
"restricted zone" between the machine and the tyre. In the next few months
Videotronics plans to return to site and consult with the Tyre maintenance
department on possible ways to improve the system in the future
